DARRI

Darri found herself at the city pound on Thanksgiving Day. Yes,
her owners turned her into the pound and left her behind in a
place where she had no future. This beautiful girl had a medical
problem which meant that she would not be able to have
puppies – so apparently she was of no use to her owners. She
appeared well cared for – a sleek shiny hair coat, her nails were
sanded nice and trim like a show dog, and she showed to be in
excellent health. When Darri needed veterinary care and some
love and understanding from her owners, she was dumped –
just like that.
Lucky for us, we found her sitting all alone in her cage way at the
back of the shelter. We were treating all the shelter dogs to a
Thanksgiving treat but Darri was so despondent that she was not
even interested in taking a bite of turkey. After looking at her sad
eyes right then and there, we knew that Darri had to be rescued.
The very next day, we were able to whisk her from the shelter and
get her to safety. She did require veterinary treatment for the next
week or so but all went well. Darri was spayed the next week and
all of her troubles were on the mend.
The more we get to know Darri the more we realize what a great
dog she really is. Besides being an absolute knock-out, Darri
even has manners. It is apparent that she has been worked with
and obeys many commands. She is a bit shy at first but warms
up quickly to humans. As for other dogs, she mostly wants to play
and romp as if she still has a lot of puppy in her.
After consulting with several people, we have determined that
Darri is a Cane Corso Mastiff also known as an Italian Mastiff.
She still has more growing to do – at maturity she should weigh
around 90 lbs. and stand 26 inches at the shoulder. Darri will
make a wonderful companion for someone who appreciates her
breed and potential to develop into a very strong, but striking girl.
We truly feel that we are the lucky ones who found this girl – she
is certainly a pleasure to know and have around!
